Bio-Gene expands mosquito control testing into Asia

Australian novel insecticide developer Bio-Gene Technology (ASX:BGT) announced an expansion of its vector control programmes into Asia.

The company will evaluate the efficacy of its nature-derived products, Flavocide and Qcide, against major disease-carrying mosquito species in the region, targeting endemic threats such as dengue fever, chikungunya fever, and the Zika virus.

The initial phase of the evaluation, which focuses heavily on Singapore and surrounding regional markets, is expected to wrap up by the third quarter of 2026.

The research will test the susceptibility of highly prevalent mosquito vectors, including Aedes aegypti, Aedes albopictus, and Culex quinquefasciatus, following strict evaluation guidelines published by the World Health Organisation.

The programme will assess the products' effectiveness against primary vectors linked to other regional threats, including West Nile virus, Japanese encephalitis, and St Louis encephalitis.

Bio-Gene’s expansion comes at a critical time as traditional insecticidal products face declining efficacy globally.

Driven by an urgent environmental need, the development of new insecticides featuring novel modes of action has become essential for modern integrated pest management frameworks.

Data gathered from these trials will directly guide the commercialisation of Flavocide and Qcide, paving the way for their integration into public health and vector control initiatives across Asia.
