BHP (ASX:BHP) awarded an approximately $200 million contract to Q H & M Birt to construct a 13-kilometre haul road linking the $1.3 billion Ministers North Project to the Yandi mine.
The new development is scheduled to produce first ore during the 2029 financial year to replace depleted deposits at the neighbouring Yandi operation.
"Ministers North makes the most of the infrastructure, skills and experience we already have to bring a new orebody into production and keep high-quality Pilbara iron ore flowing to our customers," said BHP projects director of mines Melissa Riganello.
The contractor's scope of work also includes upgrades to existing primary and secondary crushing plants at the Yandi facility.
BHP stated that the Ministers North project is targeted to reach a peak iron ore output of 20 million tonnes per year.
Following the announcement, the BHP share price was down at $57.56.
The latest contract follows an earlier award in July when GR Engineering (ASX:GNG) received a $230 million engineering, procurement and construction contract for the Ministers North development.
