  • The initiative aims to secure long-term domestic demand for Beetaloo Basin gas while establishing Darwin as a regional technology hub.

Beetaloo Energy (ASX:BTL) secured exclusive land rights near Darwin for a proposed $40 billion data centre and energy project.

The Northern Territory government granted the commitment in Weddell, as up to 12 data centre proposals target the region.

"The decision gives Beetaloo Energy certainty to advance this project and strengthens the Territory as a future digital hub," said Beetaloo Energy Managing Director Alex Underwood.

The development could create 5,000 construction jobs and 350 operational roles, according to company projections.

Following the announcement, the Beetaloo Energy share price was unchanged at $0.26.

Formerly Empire Energy, the company holds 28.9 million acres of exploration permits across the McArthur and Beetaloo basins.

The business rebranded in 2025 to align its corporate identity with its focus on commercialising onshore natural gas resources.
