Australian healthcare company BCAL Diagnostics (ASX:BDX) has developed a diagnostic blood test that achieved 91% sensitivity for detecting breast cancer recurrence.
This development addresses a clinical gap where local disease recurrence affects up to 15% of women following cancer treatment.
Preliminary study findings showed that the test correctly identified 20 out of 23 confirmed local recurrence cases.
The company stated that it intends to eventually position the test as a standalone surveillance tool.
Following the announcement, the BCAL Diagnostics share price was unchanged at $0.12.
BCAL previously launched another blood test to assist in the evaluation of breast disease for women with dense breasts.
The company also holds an exclusive licence to distribute multi-cancer early detection tests in Australia and New Zealand.
