Basin Energy (ASX:BSN) commenced a reverse circulation drilling programme at its Newmans hard-rock rare earth prospect, marking a shift in the company’s exploration strategy within Queensland’s North West Minerals Province.

The campaign follows 2023 shallow auger drilling that identified a significant 3km strike anomaly dominant in high-value neodymium and praseodymium.

Previous results included high-grade intercepts such as 3m @ 705 ppm NdPr oxide, with mineralisation remaining open at depth, suggesting substantial untapped potential beneath the surface.

Located west of Mount Isa, the Newmans prospect is being developed as a direct analogue to Red Metal’s massive Sybella discovery.

The positioning places Basin Energy at the heart of an emerging critical minerals hub, currently enjoying intensified focus from both the Australian government and global industry leaders.

The primary objective of the current RC programme is to test the depth extent and continuity of the Sybella-style mineralisation, moving beyond the shallow limits of previous exploration.

Investors are eyeing late May or early June for the release of initial assay results, which are expected to serve as a major catalyst for the company's valuation.

The programme is fully funded following a $1.1 million capital raise.
