Australian Rare Earths (ASX:AR3) commenced its maiden drilling programme at the Overland Uranium Project in South Australia.

The move marks an expansion for the Adelaide-based explorer, as it pivots to capitalise on the surging global demand for nuclear energy fuels.

The project, located within the Murray Basin, is situated in a region increasingly recognised for its potential to host high-grade, sandstone-hosted uranium deposits suitable for in-situ recovery—a low-impact mining method widely utilised in the state’s world-class uranium sector.

The initial phase of the programme involves a series of targeted rotary mud drill holes designed to test palaeochannel systems identified through previous geophysical surveys.

Geologists are particularly focused on the Renmark Group sediments, which share geological similarities with the nearby Honeymoon and Beverley uranium mines.

By targeting these specific horizons, AR3 aims to define the presence of "roll-front" mineralisation, where uranium precipitates at the boundary between oxidised and reduced sands.

The exploration milestone follows a comprehensive period of environmental assessments and community engagement, ensuring that all operations adhere to South Australia's stringent mining regulations.

The rig, currently active on its first location, represents the beginning of a multi-week campaign.

At the time of reporting, Australian Rare Earths’ share price was $0.14.
