The monthly increase follows a 1.2% rise in May and a 1% fall in April.

"New vehicle sales were the standout within transport this month, driving a 3% rise," said Australian Bureau of Statistics Head of Business Statistics Tom Lay.

Fuel spending volumes grew 7.8% following a 10.9% price drop, while air travel spending also recovered.
