- Total home commencements jumped 7% to 52,201 dwellings in the June quarter.
- Building work done rose 1.1% to reach a total value of $45.8 billion.
- New house construction rebounded by 11.6% to drive the broader recovery across the residential market.
New residential building activity across Australia picked up during the June quarter as total home commencements rose 7.0% to 52,201 dwellings.
This quarterly surge represents a sharp recovery from the March quarter, when private sector home construction was previously contracted.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics reported that the private sector new house starts led the gain with an 11.6% rise to 31,707 dwellings.
Secondary figures showed the overall value of building work completed grew 1.1% to $45.8 billion, backed by $23.6 billion in new residential projects.
Looking ahead, ongoing construction demand remains supported by 248,733 total dwellings currently under construction across the country.
The broader residential sector had been struggling under high input costs and labour constraints that previously slowed overall project completion rates.
However, recent completions rose 5.8% to 47,168 dwellings in the June quarter, indicating that supply bottlenecks are starting to ease across the market.
