This quarterly expansion compares to the 0.3% growth recorded in the March quarter 2026.

"Economic growth remained subdued in the June quarter as households continued to behave cautiously," said ABS Head of National Accounts Grace Kim.

Private business investment declined 0.5% following a pullback in data centre machinery expenditure, while household savings edged up from 6.4% to 6.5%.

For the 2025-26 financial year, annual gross domestic product rose 2.4% overall.

The quarterly result reflected significant geopolitical impacts on trade as Middle East disruptions reduced international travel spending.

On an annual basis, service industries drove broader economic expansion while accounting for over 70% of total activity.
