The Australian Securities and Investments Commission launched a legal bid in the Supreme Court of New South Wales to wind up 12 companies linked to Christopher Malcolm Edwards, a local accountant and former solicitor.

The regulator is seeking the appointment of provisional liquidators to conduct an independent assessment of the group's financial affairs while the Court deliberates on the winding-up application.

ASIC’s intervention stems from deep-seated concerns regarding the management and transparency of these entities, which include Ironbark Holdings Australia, various "Great Northern" branded developments, and Richmond Corporation.

Central to the regulator's case is the allegation that these companies have continued to raise funds despite an unclear application of investor capital.

Furthermore, ASIC contends that the group carries substantial unsecured interest-bearing liabilities that significantly outweigh known assets.

The 12 companies reportedly neglected to prepare or lodge audited financial statements between June 30, 2022 and June 30, 2025, defying formal directions issued under the Corporations Act.

Investigators noted that the entities show limited signs of genuine commercial activity or business income, with associated property developments appearing to have stalled entirely.

While the applications for final winding-up relief are yet to be scheduled for a full hearing, the matter is listed for directions before the Supreme Court on April 13.
