Arovella Therapeutics (ASX:ALA) has dosed its first patient in the SAPPHIRE phase 1 trial of cell therapy ALA-101.
The open-label clinical study marks the transition of the treatment candidate into first-in-human testing.
"ALA-101 has been designed to overcome key limitations of conventional CAR-T therapies by using healthy donor-derived iNKT cells that can be manufactured in advance and supplied when needed," said Lead Investigator Dr Sam Fiorenza.
The company stated that its off-the-shelf cell therapy uses healthy donor-derived cells manufactured in advance to reduce costs and treatment delays.
Following the announcement, the Arovella Therapeutics share price was down at $0.048.
The company recently strengthened its balance sheet after receiving a $4 million R&D tax rebate.
The trial will continue evaluating safety and preliminary efficacy across patients diagnosed with blood cancers.
