  • Preclinical animal trials showed lead drug candidate ARG-007 reduced secondary brain damage after repeated mild traumatic brain injury.
  • Following the announcement, the share price rose 7.1% to $0.15.
  • The findings confirm broad neuroprotective activity across multiple brain regions tied to memory, cognition, and mood.

Biotechnology firm Argenica Therapeutics (ASX:AGN) released preclinical trial data demonstrating that its lead drug ARG-007 reduces secondary injury effects in rodent concussion models.

The research expands upon previous preclinical data that established the drug's efficacy in treating moderate to severe traumatic brain injuries.

A single low dose of 1 mg/kg IV administered 30 minutes post-injury lowered neuroinflammation and reversed structural damage to nerve fibres for up to 11 days.

Following the announcement, the Argenica Therapeutics share price was up at $0.15.

The preclinical study was conducted in partnership with researchers at Curtin University and the Perron Institute for Neurological and Translational Science.

The company stated that ARG-007 holds potential to modify the underlying biological response to concussion rather than simply masking symptoms.
