Alterity Therapeutics (ASX:ATH) secured a new United States composition of matter patent covering the crystalline structure of the mesylate salt form of its lead drug asset, ATH434.
The newly issued patent builds upon existing intellectual property and regulatory designations to provide multi-layered market protection for the clinical-stage biotechnology company.
"With protection to at least 2045, this patent extends the commercial life and revenue potential for ATH434 in MSA, if approved, as we prepare to initiate Phase 3 trial activities by year-end 2026," said Alterity CEO David Stamler.
The company stated that the composition of matter protection covers the specific formulation utilised in prior Phase 2 clinical trials and intended for future evaluation.
The business anticipates that the extended patent portfolio will reinforce its market position as it advances clinical development programmes across multiple neurodegenerative disorders.
Following the announcement, the Alterity Therapeutics share price was up at $0.57.
The Melbourne-headquartered company focuses on developing disease-modifying treatments for neurodegenerative conditions driven by iron dysregulation and protein aggregation.
