Altech Batteries shelves German Silumina Anodes Project

Altech Batteries (ASX:ATC) announced the discontinuation of its 8,000-tonne-per-year Silumina Anodes Project.

The decision follows a rigorous board assessment which concluded that, despite six years of intensive development, the venture failed to secure the necessary strategic funding or forward sales agreements from automotive and battery sectors.

The board determined that the project offered negligible material benefit to shareholders and could no longer justify its projected operating costs.

The project’s vehicle, Altech Industries Germany, is scheduled for liquidation on June 30.

As part of the wind-down, Altech will sell its Saxony development land back to the local government for approximately $732,000, while pilot plant equipment and laboratory assets will be auctioned to maximise returns.

All net proceeds from the liquidation will flow back to Altech as the sole shareholder, providing a capital injection for its remaining operations.

The strategic retreat allows Altech to concentrate its resources exclusively on the commercialisation of its CERENERGY sodium chloride solid-state battery project.

The company is currently in advanced negotiations with potential joint venture partners and has secured conditional approval for up to $80.4 million in German federal funding.

The grant covers roughly 30% of the capital expenditure for the Saxony manufacturing facility.

At the time of reporting, Altech Batteries’ share price was $0.0090.
