Key points

  • Blackstone-backed AirTrunk secured a $4.25 billion green loan to fund the expansion of its SYD3 data centre in western Sydney.
  • The transaction brings the company's total committed debt financing to approximately $38.4 billion globally.
  • The funding aims to support digital capacity growth while aligning with the company's Net Zero 2030 emissions targets.

AirTrunk locked in an $4.25 billion green loan backed by a consortium of 32 financial institutions to expand its SYD3 data centre campus in western Sydney.

The financing agreement follows a reported market move from earlier in July and comes despite broader sector turbulence, including aborted initial public offerings and project delays among industry peers.

"SYD3 is a long-term investment in western Sydney and Australia's digital capability, backed by the confidence of leading Australian and international banks," said AirTrunk Vice President of Origination and Market Expansion Tom Mackellar.

The transaction involves 14 lead underwriting banks and brings the enterprise's total global committed debt financing to roughly $38.4 billion.

Following the announcement, the unlisted private company share price was unchanged, as AirTrunk remains a subsidiary backed by Blackstone.

The capital injection supports the continued development of digital infrastructure designed to host cloud, artificial intelligence, and enterprise computing systems.

The enterprise continues to scale its regional footprint across its Australian platforms, which span five active campuses and over 1.2 gigawatts of total capacity.
