The company now expects adjusted earnings to fall between $5.45 to $5.60 a share this year, a 5-cent improvement at the midpoint, it said in a statement Thursday. Profit and sales in the second quarter both surpassed Wall Street estimates. Shares rose 2.7% in early trading in New York.  Abbott's device and diabetes businesses modestly beat Wall Street estimates. Its FreeStyle Libre 3 glucose sensors were linked late last year to more than 700 injuries and seven deaths after they were found to be providing incorrect readings.
