$700 Cash Grants Transform Lives in Malawi
The nonprofit GiveDirectly, with a large backing from Canva, is providing eligible adults in two Malawi districts with about $700 each, roughly equivalent to the country's annual income per person, with virtually no restrictions on how the money is spent. Bloomberg News Senior Africa Reporter Antony Sguazzin joins Christina Ruffini and Bailey Lipschultz on Bloomberg This Weekend and reports recipients are investing in businesses, livestock and home improvements, offering a test of whether large-scale direct cash transfers can provide a more efficient model for development aid.
