About

UMA is a decentralized optimistic oracle protocol that records verifiable data and real-world truths onto blockchain networks. Supported by the Risk Labs Foundation, the protocol enables smart contracts to query natural-language statements and arbitrary data inputs across prediction markets, cross-chain communication, insurance, and real-world asset protocols. Data requests on UMA are proposed with a financial bond and accepted as accurate unless disputed during a designated challenge period. In the event of a dispute, UMA token holders vote on the resolution to provide economic guarantees and finalize data queries, earning rewards for voting with the majority.

Products and/or services of UMA

  • Optimistic Oracle: Decentralized oracle infrastructure that resolves natural-language statements and arbitrary data queries for blockchain smart contracts by utilizing financial dispute bonds, proposed assertions, and a multi-stage consensus validation process.
  • Prediction Market Resolution: Oracle validation mechanism used by platforms such as Polymarket to settle outcome queries for real-world events, including elections, sporting events, weather data, and market statistics through verifiable data assertions.
  • Cross-Chain Data Bridging: Decentralized data transport and oracle validation framework supporting cross-chain message passing and asset bridging protocols like Across across multiple Ethereum Virtual Machine compatible layer-1 and layer-2 blockchain networks.
  • Staking and Governance Security: Protocol mechanism enabling native token holders to stake tokens, vote on contested data disputes, maintain economic security guarantees, and earn annual percentage yield rewards for accurate majority voting.
  • Real World Asset Feeds: Oracle verification system providing smart contracts with off-chain valuation, audit attestations, and pricing data needed to support decentralized finance protocols dealing in real-world assets and collateralized debt positions.
  • DeFi Insurance Validation: Verification framework used by smart contract insurance and audit protocols like Sherlock to assess exploit claims, validate coverage conditions, and trigger automated policy payout resolutions on-chain.
