Governments are rushing to secure supplies of critical crop nutrients ahead of spring planting, as the Middle East war chokes off the flow of commodities and amplifies fears of a global food crisis. Fertilizers exemplify the tight link between energy and food prices, underpinning harvests worldwide. The Middle East is a vital supplier, rich in both mineral reserves and the gas needed to produce nutrients for staples like corn, wheat and rice. With the Strait of Hormuz effectively shut, shipments have ground to a halt as Iran, the US and Israel continue to exchange strikes on energy infrastructure. GOP Debates Scope of Next Partisan Spending Package

The coming days will determine just how narrow a sweeping spending package President Donald Trump will get from Congress next month. Republican leadership on Capitol Hill is hoping to pass swiftly another partisan tax-and-spending bill through the budget reconciliation process that would fund ICE and Border Patrol. Base funding for those agencies expired in February as Democrats balked at funding immigration enforcement without restrictions on those agents. Treasuries Fall as Inflation Data Erode Fed Rate-Cut Wager

Treasuries fell as quickening inflation stemming from the US war on Iran and the prospect of escalation eroded wagers that the Federal Reserve will lower interest rates once this year. The rise in yields began in early US trading after the release of consumer prices data for March the first to reflect the impact of the war. Yields extended their climb to as much as five basis points after midday after US President Donald Trump threatened to escalate the war if weekend talks failed.
