The United States has seized two tankers accused of transporting Venezuelan oil in coordinated operations in the North Atlantic and the Caribbean.

US forces boarded the Russian-flagged Marinera after a near two-week pursuit between Iceland and Scotland with logistical support from the UK Royal Navy.

A second vessel, the M/T Sophia, was intercepted in the Caribbean and accused of conducting illicit activities linked to sanctioned oil trade.

The blockade of sanctioned and illicit Venezuelan oil remains in full effect anywhere in the world.

Pete Hegseth said.

Russia condemned the seizure of the Marinera and demanded the swift return of its crew, arguing the vessel was legally registered.

US officials said the tanker was deemed stateless after flying a false flag and was seized under a US federal court warrant.

Venezuela’s leadership is co-operating with the United States over the Caribbean seizure, according to senior US officials.

They understand that the only way they can move oil and generate revenue is if they co-operate with the United States.

Marco Rubio said.

The seizures have intensified debate in Washington over the scope and cost of US involvement in Venezuela.

China criticised the actions, warning they threaten global energy security.
