Old Dominion daily revenue climbs 12.3% on yield improvements

Old Dominion Freight Line (NASDAQ:ODFL) reported a 12.3% increase in revenue per day for May 2026 compared with the same month last year, driven by robust pricing gains that overrode lower volume metrics.

The Thomasville, North Carolina-based less-than-truckload carrier attributed the higher daily revenue to an expansion in LTL revenue per hundredweight, a key industry metric for yield management.

This pricing momentum helped offset a 3.8% year-over-year contraction in LTL tons per day.

The compression in daily tonnage was primarily caused by a 5.3% decrease in daily LTL shipments.

This decline was only partially mitigated by a 1.6% increase in the average weight per shipment during the month.

Quarter-to-date operational data indicated sustained structural yield growth for the company.

LTL revenue per hundredweight rose 15.6% compared to the same period in 2025.

When isolating core pricing by removing volatile fuel fees, LTL revenue per hundredweight excluding fuel surcharges increased 5.4% year-over-year.
