RTX (NYSE:RTX) announced Tuesday that its Raytheon business has been awarded a $1.7 billion foreign military sales contract to deliver four Patriot® air and missile defense systems to Spain.
This agreement represents Spain’s largest-ever Patriot acquisition to date and underscores a broader European trend of modernizing integrated air and missile defense (IAMD) capabilities in response to evolving regional threats.
The comprehensive contract includes the delivery of four complete fire units, consisting of sophisticated radars, launchers, engagement control stations, and specialized training equipment.
The deal is expected to significantly enhance the Spanish Armed Forces' ability to intercept long-range cruise missiles, tactical ballistic missiles, and advanced aircraft.
A key component of the award is the continued collaboration between Raytheon and Spain’s domestic defense sector.
Most notably, Spanish engineering group Sener will produce the electro-mechanical control sections for the Guidance Enhanced Missile (GEM-T).
This partnership integrates Spanish industry directly into the global Patriot supply chain, supporting both local job creation and the replenishment of NATO missile stockpiles.
The Patriot system currently serves as the primary air defense architecture for 19 countries.
Spain’s latest order follows a year of heightened demand across the continent, with Germany, the Netherlands, and Romania also placing significant orders for additional fire units in 2025.
The systems are slated for delivery as part of a multi-year modernization program, ensuring Spain's interoperability with NATO allies at a time when collective security in Europe has returned to the forefront of national policy.
