Pony.ai (NYSE:PONY) took a significant step toward the mass-market commercialization of autonomous driving on March 13, 2026, by integrating its driverless robotaxi service directly into the Tencent Mobility Service via WeChat.
The integration allows users in designated areas of Guangzhou to book fully driverless rides through the "Mobility Services" portal of WeChat, one of the world's most pervasive consumer apps.
By entering pickup and drop-off locations, passengers can now opt for an autonomous trip if the route falls within Pony.ai's operational zones.
This move drastically lowers the barrier to entry for new users, moving the service beyond Pony.ai’s standalone app and into a digital ecosystem with more than one billion active users.
The rollout is a key milestone in a strategic partnership with Tencent Cloud that was first established in April 2025.
Beyond consumer-facing ride-hailing, the collaboration leverages Tencent’s high-performance cloud computing, big data, and virtual simulation to refine the "PonyWorld" virtual model, which "coaches" autonomous vehicles to handle complex real-world traffic scenarios.
Pony.ai continues to lead the sector in fleet scale.
The company confirmed that its total robotaxi fleet has surpassed 1,159 vehicles, making it the first in China to operate fully driverless services across all four tier-one cities: Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen.
Looking ahead, the company is targeting a fleet size of more than 3,000 units by the end of 2026.
