Ondas Holdings (NASDAQ:ONDS) announced a strategic expansion into the airborne missile protection and Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) markets today with the acquisition of BIRD Aerosystems.

The move marks a significant pivot for Ondas, as it seeks to integrate combat-proven defense technologies with its existing autonomous drone and sensing platforms.

BIRD Aerosystems brings a massive operational footprint to the Ondas portfolio, with its systems currently installed on more than 700 aircraft spanning over 40 different aircraft types.

The acquisition specifically targets BIRD’s signature AMPS (Airborne Missile Protection System), which includes Directed Infrared Countermeasure (DIRCM) capabilities, and its ASIO ISR technologies.

The deal equips Ondas with a suite of high-end defense hardware, including advanced missile-warning sensors, multi-mode radar, and electro-optical sensors.

By folding these "mission command-and-control" assets into its own ecosystem, Ondas aims to extend high-tier protection and surveillance capabilities to unmanned aerial platforms, which have historically lacked the sophisticated countermeasure suites found on manned military aircraft.

Financial terms of the transaction were not immediately disclosed.
