Ubisoft temporarily shut down Rainbow Six Siege after hackers breached its online systems and flooded accounts with in-game credits.
The French publisher confirmed the incident on December 27 through multiple updates shared on social media platform X.
As the scale of the breach emerged, Ubisoft suspended live servers and the in-game marketplace.
Player reports indicated attackers gained access to core backend systems controlling the online environment.
Upon logging in, players discovered they had each received 2 billion R6 credits.
The exploit also unlocked rare in-game items, including premium skins and high-tier weapons.
Screenshots circulated online showed hackers briefly controlling messaging and banning functions.
Ubisoft pricing shows 15,000 R6 credits cost $99.99, valuing the exploit at about $13.3 million per player.
The sudden credit injection raised serious concerns about account integrity and the game’s economy.
On December 28, the Rainbow Six Siege team announced a rollback of credits issued after 11:00 UTC.
A rollback is currently ongoing and afterwards, extensive quality control tests will be executed to ensure the integrity of accounts.
