MetaMask has launched access to tokenised US stocks, exchange-traded funds and commodities for non-US users through a partnership with Ondo Finance.
Eligible users can access around 200 tokenised US equities, ETFs and commodities such as gold and silver on the Ethereum network by swapping USD Coin into Ondo Global Markets tokens, which are designed to track underlying assets on a one-to-one basis.
“Bringing Ondo’s tokenised US stocks and ETFs directly into MetaMask shows what a better model looks like,”
Said Joe Lubin, adding that a single self-custodial wallet could let users move between crypto and traditional assets without intermediaries.
The rollout is initially limited to the MetaMask mobile app, with desktop support via a browser extension expected by the end of February, according to Consensys.
The offering excludes users in the US and around 30 other jurisdictions, including Canada, the European Economic Area and the UK, with access restricted based on users’ locations.
MetaMask said it continues to explore compliant ways to expand access to tokenised real-world assets as regulatory frameworks evolve.
