Prairie Lithium (ASX:PL9) has reached a milestone in the development of its flagship Prairie Lithium Project, announcing a binding definitive offtake agreement with South Korean partner Hydro Lithium.

The collaboration secures the purchase of 100% of Phase 1 production, effectively de-risking the project’s initial commercial-scale proof of concept.

Under the terms of the agreement, Hydro Lithium will purchase 150 tonnes per annum of lithium carbonate equivalent.

Beyond the offtake commitment, the partnership includes a substantial technological investment: Hydro Lithium will provide and operate approximately $10 million of advanced, proprietary lithium refining equipment at Prairie’s Saskatchewan site in Canada.

The integration of technical capability provides third-party validation of Prairie’s development strategy while facilitating a lower-capital pathway to first production.

The pricing mechanism for the product is strategically linked to battery-grade lithium carbonate formulas, accounting for conversion costs, efficiencies, and lithium weight percentages.

By leveraging Hydro Lithium’s established 3,600 TPA LCE refinery in South Korea, Prairie Lithium secures a reliable downstream processing route, aligning with its goal to sell upgraded intermediate products rather than undergoing full conversion independently.

Construction at the Saskatchewan facility is currently well advanced, with the company targeting first production by Q4 2026.
