Omega Oil and Gas (ASX:OMA), in a strategic partnership with Beach Energy (ASX:BPT) and coal seam gas pioneer Tri-Star, has significantly expanded its footprint in Queensland’s emerging Taroom Trough after being awarded a prime 750-square-kilometre exploration permit.

The new acreage, designated as area PLR2-25-1-9, sits directly north of Omega's existing holdings, consolidating the consortium's dominance in the eastern Trough.

The venture marks a milestone entry for Adelaide-based Beach Energy into the region—an area currently seeing intensified activity from global majors like Shell.

Under the terms of the permit, any gas recovered is strictly earmarked for the Australian domestic market, providing a potential lifeline to the tightening east coast supply.

The move capitalises on the region's proximity to existing infrastructure, making it a high-priority target for rapid development.

The consortium has confirmed plans to begin exploratory drilling in the 2026-27 window, signaling a long-term commitment to unlocking the Trough’s deep gas potential.
