Vivani Medical signs evaluation agreement with Novo Nordisk
- Vivani Medical signed a new agreement with Novo Nordisk for internal evaluation of NPM-139.
- The update centers on NPM-139, a semaglutide implant for chronic weight management using NanoPortal™ technology.
- Vivani said it expects to begin a Phase 1 first-in-human study in mid-2026.
Vivani Medical (NASDAQ:VANI) signed a new agreement with Novo Nordisk (NYSE:NVO) for a non-exclusive internal evaluation of NPM-139, its semaglutide implant for chronic weight management.
The agreement gives Novo Nordisk access to evaluate NPM-139 internally, but it does not give exclusive rights to the program.
Vivani said NPM-139 uses its NanoPortal™ technology, which is designed to deliver semaglutide through an implant instead of repeated injections.
The company also said it expects to begin a Phase 1 first-in-human study of NPM-139 in mid-2026, using Wegovy injections as an active comparator.
That trial is expected by Vivani to focus on safety, pharmacokinetics, and tolerability.
Vivani said the Phase 1 study is intended to support a potential Phase 2 dose-ranging trial if the early study results and regulatory feedback support further development.
