Unity Bancorp (NASDAQ:UNTY), the parent company of Unity Bank, reported a 23.2% year-over-year increase in net income for the first quarter of 2026, underscored by robust profitability metrics and stable balance sheet growth.

The results reflect the community lender's resilience in a shifting interest rate environment and its continued focus on core deposit retention.

For the quarter ended March 31, 2026, the company reported net income of $14.3 million, or $1.40 per diluted share.

This performance was supported by a standout 2.04% return on average assets (ROAA) and a 16.38% return on average equity (ROAE), placing Unity among the top-performing community banks in its peer group.

Total assets for the Clinton, New Jersey-based lender now approximate $3 billion, supported by a deposit base of $2.4 billion.

Management noted that both gross loans and core customer deposits saw modest increases compared to the levels reported at the end of 2025, signaling steady demand in its primary commercial and residential lending markets.

The 23.2% jump in net income was primarily driven by a combination of efficient expense management and sustained net interest margins.

Despite broader industry concerns regarding deposit flight and credit normalization, Unity’s asset quality remained high, with the loan-to-deposit ratio remaining in a healthy range to support future lending capacity.
