Transocean (NYSE:RIG) announced a significant contract award on April 16, 2026, for its ultra-deepwater drillship, the Deepwater Asgard.

An undisclosed operator in the Eastern Mediterranean has secured the vessel for a five-well drilling campaign, adding approximately $158 million to Transocean’s contract backlog.

The estimated 390-day campaign is scheduled to commence in the fourth quarter of 2026.

Notably, the $158 million figure represents the core contract value and excludes additional compensation for services such as mobilization and demobilization.

This latest fixture is part of a broader momentum for the company.

Including other recent awards, Transocean has successfully added approximately $1.6 billion to its total backlog since the beginning of April 2026.

The Deepwater Asgard is a dual-activity, ultra-deepwater drillship capable of operating in water depths up to 12,000 feet.

Its deployment to the Eastern Mediterranean highlights the region's growing importance as a hub for offshore energy security and production.
