TC Energy advances Coastal GasLink Phase 2 expansion
- TC Energy will proceed with Coastal GasLink Phase 2 after LNG Canada approved its expansion investment decision.
- The project will nearly double the pipeline’s existing capacity of approximately 2.1 Bcf/d.
- Construction is expected to begin in early 2027, with service targeted for the early 2030s.
TC Energy (NYSE:TRP) announced that it will move forward with Coastal GasLink Phase 2 after LNG Canada’s expansion investment decision satisfied the required project conditions.
The expansion will increase capacity on the Coastal GasLink pipeline by adding compressor stations and upgrading facilities along the 670-kilometre route.
The pipeline currently transports approximately 2.1 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) of natural gas.
Under existing agreements, LNG Canada will manage construction activities for Phase 2, while Coastal GasLink will continue to retain ownership, operating responsibilities, and required permits.
TC Energy said the project structure is designed to limit Coastal GasLink’s capital commitments and reduce exposure to construction cost and schedule risks.
Construction is expected to begin in early 2027, with expanded service anticipated in the early 2030s.
