RTX (NYSE:RTX) and United Airlines marked the delivery of the first Airbus A321XLR aircraft powered by Pratt & Whitney’s GTF Advantage engine on September 24, 2026.
The aircraft uses engines from RTX’s Pratt & Whitney business and represents the introduction of the upgraded GTF Advantage specification into commercial airline operations.
Pratt & Whitney said the GTF Advantage engine is expected to remain on an aircraft for up to twice as long before removal compared with today’s GTF engine and provide 4% to 8% additional takeoff thrust.
The GTF Advantage engine is designed to be interchangeable with existing GTF models, allowing airlines to incorporate upgrades while maintaining fleet compatibility.
Pratt & Whitney plans to transition its entire PW1100G-JM production line to the GTF Advantage specification by 2028.
The company also expects its GTF Hot Section Plus upgrade to become available during maintenance visits beginning early next year.
