Phillips 66 (NYSE:PSX) locked out union-represented employees at its Bayway Refinery in Linden, New Jersey, after a temporary labor contract extension expired.

The extension expired at 4 p.m. Eastern Time on October 19, prompting the company to restrict union employees' access to refinery and terminal operations.

“In the absence of a further extension and to meet our commitment to safe and reliable operations, Phillips 66 has now locked out union-represented employees at those facilities,” the company said.

The dispute affects approximately 385 Teamsters Local 877 members at Bayway, a major East Coast refinery with a reported capacity of 275,000 barrels per day.

Phillips 66 said it intends to maintain operations using trained personnel, although the duration of the lockout and any production impact remain uncertain.

Union representatives said members rejected the company's latest contract proposal and were seeking improved wages, benefits, attendance policies and working schedules.

The union warned that prolonged disruption could affect Northeast fuel supplies, while Phillips 66 maintained that qualified personnel would continue meeting customer requirements.
