NIO signs RMB640 million battery swap deal

NIO (NYSE:NIO) signed definitive agreements with subsidiaries of Geely Holding Group covering investments and asset transactions involving NIO Power’s battery swapping and charging businesses.

Under the agreement, a Geely subsidiary will contribute its full stake in Yiyi Internet Technology (Chongqing) and RMB640 million in cash to NIO Power, receiving a 30% equity stake subject to regulatory approvals and closing conditions.

Following completion of the transaction, NIO China will retain a controlling 63.6% stake in NIO Power, an existing investor will hold 6.4%, and the business will have an implied post-investment valuation of approximately RMB16 billion.

NIO develops electric vehicles and related energy services, including battery swapping and charging infrastructure designed to support electric vehicle users.

The company said the Geely subsidiary’s ownership stake could decrease to no less than 20% if certain operational milestones are not achieved, while a separate agreement involves NIO China acquiring a 10% stake in Geely’s Haohan Energy.
