MongoDB (NASDAQ:MDB) shares fell more than 20% after CEO and president Chirantan “CJ” Desai resigned to join Meta Platforms.

The company said Desai stepped down effective immediately to pursue a senior role at Meta, while MongoDB shares had already declined 2% in 2026 before Monday’s trading session.

MongoDB provides a database platform used by companies to build and manage applications, including workloads involving cloud computing and artificial intelligence.

The company said Ittycheria previously served as MongoDB’s CEO and president from 2014 to 2025, while Meta said it is building its Meta Enterprise Platform initiative to support businesses using artificial intelligence.
