AMC Entertainment (NYSE:AMC), the world's largest theatrical exhibitor, delivered a record-setting performance over the 2026 Easter holiday weekend, achieving the highest combined global admissions and concessions revenue for the holiday frame in the company’s 106-year history.
The record-breaking results were fueled by the massive global opening of THE SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE, which generated an estimated $372 million worldwide.
From Wednesday, April 1, through Sunday, April 5, more than 6 million guests visited AMC and ODEON Cinemas locations, marking the chain’s best attendance for a five-day Wednesday-through-Sunday period so far this year.
The film’s broad, multi-generational appeal drew significant turnout from families and younger audiences, revitalizing the theatrical landscape following a competitive spring slate.
Beyond ticket sales, the "Mario" phenomenon extended to AMC’s high-margin retail segment.
The film’s themed merchandise program—headlined by the viral Yoshi and Luma LED popcorn buckets—became the second-highest grossing merchandise launch in AMC history, trailing only the all-time record set by the TAYLOR SWIFT | THE ERAS TOUR concert film in late 2023.
While THE SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE provided the bulk of the weekend’s momentum, AMC also benefited from a diverse slate of supporting titles.
The debut of THE DRAMA and the continued strong performance of holdover hits PROJECT HAIL MARY and HOPPERS provided a balanced box office that sustained foot traffic throughout the holiday frame.
