Lockheed Martin (NYSE:LMT) successfully launched the tenth and final GPS III Space Vehicle (SV10) on April 21, 2026, a significant milestone that completes the current generation of Global Positioning System satellites.

The launch serves as a critical bridge between the foundational GPS III program and the upcoming GPS IIIF (Follow-on) series, for which Lockheed Martin is already under contract to build 12 additional units.

The SV10 satellite is designed to provide significantly enhanced accuracy and resiliency for both military and civilian users worldwide.

Key technical advancements included in this final vehicle are a digital Rubidium atomic clock for superior timing precision and an optical crosslink demonstration.

This experimental crosslink technology is a mechanical necessity for future satellite-to-satellite communication, allowing the constellation to operate with reduced dependence on ground stations.

The GPS III series provides up to three times better accuracy and up to eight times improved anti-jamming capabilities compared to legacy satellites.

The transition to the "Follow-on" IIIF model will further evolve these capabilities, introducing a modular architecture designed to integrate new technologies faster and more efficiently as threats in space continue to evolve.

With the successful orbit of SV10, the U.S. Space Force constellation moves a step closer to full modernized operational capability.
