Group 1 Automotive posts $5.4B revenue as sales slide 5.6%

Group 1 Automotive (NYSE:GPI) reported second-quarter 2026 revenue of $5.4 billion, down 5.6% year over year, as lower vehicle volumes and finance-related revenue reduced results.

The company’s net income from continuing operations declined to $103 million from $139.8 million in the prior-year quarter, while diluted EPS decreased to $8.62 from $10.77.

Group 1 Automotive reported total gross profit of $860.6 million, down 8%, as new retail unit volume declined 4.4%, used retail unit volume fell 11.2%, and finance and insurance revenue decreased 8.8%.

Meanwhile, the company agreed to acquire 10 Hennessy dealerships in Atlanta, which Group 1 Automotive said are expected to add about $1.7 billion in annual revenue by year-end 2026.

Elsewhere, Group 1 Automotive reduced total debt by 9.1% to $3.36 billion and increased cash to $164.5 million, while separately retaining two Atlanta dealerships expected to contribute $205 million in annual revenue.

The company also completed United Kingdom dealership disposals representing $900 million in annualised revenue year to date and continues managing its dealership portfolio across the United States and international markets.
