Duke Energy (NASDAQ:DUK) reported fourth-quarter earnings that fell slightly short of Wall Street expectations, even as the utility’s revenue surged past analyst forecasts.

The Charlotte, North Carolina-based company posted net income of $1.18 billion for the period, translating to profit of $1.50 per share.

The results missed the consensus estimate of $1.51 per share derived from six analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research.

Despite the earnings miss, the electric utility demonstrated strong top-line performance, posting revenue of $7.94 billion for the quarter.

This figure comfortably exceeded the $7.64 billion predicted by five analysts in the Zacks survey.

For the full year, Duke Energy reported total profit of $4.97 billion, or $6.31 per share, on revenue of $32.24 billion.

Looking ahead, the company issued full-year earnings guidance in the range of $6.55 to $6.80 per share, signaling expectations for continued operational growth in the coming fiscal periods.
