  • Artelo Biosciences (NASDAQ:ARTL) reported new preclinical data for ART26.12 in a spinal cord injury pain model.
  • The FABP5 inhibitor reduced mechanical hypersensitivity and spontaneous pain behaviors in mice.
  • The company said oral dosing also suppressed nociceptor hyperexcitability and improved pain outcomes.

Artelo Biosciences (NASDAQ:ARTL) reported new preclinical data for ART26.12, a selective FABP5 inhibitor currently in Phase 1 development, in a mouse model of spinal cord injury–related neuropathic pain.

The findings expand earlier research focused on FABP5 inhibition as a potential mechanism for reducing pain signaling in nervous system injury models.

The company said treatment with ART26.12 reduced mechanical hypersensitivity and decreased spontaneous pain-related behaviors in preclinical testing.

Artelo also reported suppression of nociceptor hyperexcitability following oral dosing, along with improved overall pain-related outcomes in the study model.

The program remains in early clinical development, with Phase 1 evaluation ongoing for ART26.12.

Artelo said the results support further investigation of FABP5 inhibition as a potential approach for neuropathic pain treatment.

The company added that spinal cord injury–related pain remains a significant unmet medical need in current pain management therapies.
