ArcelorMittal (NYSE:MT) announced that it cannot safely and sustainably restart operations at its Kryvyi Rih subsidiary in Ukraine following continued damage from missile strikes.

The company said four strikes over a five-week period resulted in five fatalities and injuries to 17 employees, with one employee remaining in critical condition.

The most recent strike occurred on September 21, 2026.

ArcelorMittal said production facilities at the site sustained extensive damage, preventing a safe restart of operations.

The company expects to record a non-cash impairment charge of approximately $1 billion, primarily related to property, plant, and equipment at the Kryvyi Rih facility.

ArcelorMittal said it has provided more than $700 million to support continuity of operations at the subsidiary during the ongoing disruption.

The company is continuing discussions with the Government of Ukraine regarding the future of the facility.

ArcelorMittal said it intends to preserve the infrastructure so that restarting production remains possible when conditions allow.
