Unicoin sues Uniswap over UNI trademark

Unicoin has sued Uniswap Labs in New York, seeking to keep its UNICOIN name and cancel Uniswap’s federal UNI trademark registration.
Unicoin claims the UNI prefix is widely used and points to more than 3,600 US trademark registrations containing UNI.
Unicoin’s complaint argues that “uni” is generic or descriptive and does not identify Uniswap as a single source.
The dispute began after Uniswap sent Unicoin a legal demand in June, seeking an end to its use of UNICOIN and related names.
Unicoin rejected the demands and said it had independently used the UNICOIN name since 2021, before Uniswap maintained its infringement claims.
Unicoin is also seeking declarations covering trademark infringement, dilution, cybersquatting and unfair competition, plus legal costs.
The case adds another legal dispute for Uniswap, while Unicoin’s complaint arrives after the SEC separately sued the company over its cryptocurrency offerings in 2025.
