Super League jumps 20% as Metaplanet adds 2,100 BTC

Share
  • US-listed metaverse company Super League (NASDAQ:SLE) surged more than 20% in pre-market trading, pushing its market capitalisation to US$5.11 million, following news of a major capital injection from Japanese Bitcoin treasury company Metaplanet.
  • Metaplanet will inject approximately 2,100 Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC), valued at roughly US$132 million, plus an additional US$2.5 million in cash into Super League (NASDAQ:SLE) as part of the transaction.
  • Super League will be renamed Superplanet upon completion of the deal, with its Nasdaq stock ticker set to change from SLE to SUPA.

Once the transaction closes, Metaplanet is projected to hold approximately 95.7% of Superplanet's shares, effectively establishing a US-listed Bitcoin treasury platform through which Metaplanet can raise capital via American capital markets.

The structure mirrors the approach pioneered by Strategy (NASDAQ:MSTR), using a publicly listed vehicle to accumulate Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) and leverage US equity markets for ongoing capital raising.

The pre-market surge reflects market participants pricing in the transformational nature of the transaction, which fundamentally changes Super League's (NASDAQ:SLE) business from a metaverse entertainment company to a Bitcoin treasury holding entity.

The transaction gives Metaplanet, which already operates as a Bitcoin treasury company listed in Japan, a direct foothold in US capital markets through a Nasdaq-listed entity that can issue equity and debt to fund further Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) accumulation.

The deal represents one of the largest Bitcoin treasury transactions by value involving a US-listed small-cap company, with the US$132 million BTC injection dwarfing Super League's pre-announcement market capitalisation.

At the time of reporting, Bitcoin price was $64,116.20.
