  • Researchers urged wallet developers to strengthen privacy protections.

A new study found privacy and tracking risks in 85% of cryptocurrency wallet browser extensions that researchers analysed.

The researchers said many wallets shared user information with third-party services or exposed data that could identify users.

"Many wallet extensions leak more information than users expect," the researchers said.

The report found risks including browser fingerprinting, tracking requests and metadata leaks during normal wallet activity.

The researchers recommended limiting third-party connections, reducing data collection and improving privacy controls.

Browser wallet extensions are widely used to access blockchain networks, decentralised applications and cryptocurrency accounts.

The study said stronger privacy protections could reduce the risk of tracking and improve user security across the crypto ecosystem.
