Stellar activates Protocol 28 as RWA hits $3.3B
- Stellar has activated Protocol 28, adding tools for smart-contract upgrades, data migration and consensus processing.
- The network has recorded more than 211 TPS, while tokenised real-world assets have reached about $3.3 billion.
- Adoption remains the next test, as developers must opt into the new contract features and validators gradually enable consensus changes.
Stellar has activated Protocol 28 after a scheduled mainnet vote, adding infrastructure designed for larger smart-contract deployments.
The upgrade allows groups of Soroban contracts to move to new code together, while the network’s tokenised real-world asset market has reached about $3.3 billion.
CAP-85 allows multiple contracts to share an externally managed executable, while CAP-86 supports gradual changes to stored contract data.
Protocol 28 also introduces CAP-83 consensus changes, while Stellar’s XLM (CRYPTO:XLM) gained about 4% before retreating towards $0.18.
The network has averaged more than 211 transactions per second across 100 consecutive blocks, according to blockchain analysis firm Chainspect.
Stellar’s stablecoin supply has reached nearly $884 million, while DeFi TVL stood near $294 million after hitting $319 million in August.
