  • The Second Circuit issued Sam Bankman-Fried’s appeal mandate on 4 August, formally closing his case at the appeals court.
  • The order leaves his seven-count conviction, 25-year prison sentence and roughly US$11 billion forfeiture intact.
  • Bankman-Fried’s remaining judicial option is asking the US Supreme Court to review his case.

The Second Circuit issued Sam Bankman-Fried’s appeal mandate on 4 August, leaving his 25-year prison sentence unchanged.

The one-page order followed the court’s 12 June decision rejecting his appeal and upholding all seven convictions.

“While he was publicly reassuring customers, investors and regulators that FTX customer funds were safe,” Circuit Judge Barrington Parker wrote.

The court also upheld roughly US$11 billion in forfeiture, while an April request for a new trial was rejected.

Bankman-Fried can petition the US Supreme Court, although BeInCrypto noted that it accepts only a small share of petitions.

Bankman-Fried was convicted in November 2023 over fraud and conspiracy charges linked to the collapse of crypto exchange FTX.

He has separately applied for a presidential pardon, while FTX creditors received their fifth repayment round in late July.
