Riot transfers 500 Bitcoin to NYDIG

Riot Platforms transferred another 500 Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) worth about US$30.72 million to NYDIG Custody, adding to speculation that the company could sell part of its cryptocurrency holdings.

The transfer follows a similar movement of 500 BTC to NYDIG in April and comes after Riot disclosed selling 3,778 BTC for about US$289.5 million during the first quarter of 2026 at an average price of US$76,626 per Bitcoin.

The company has not stated that the latest transfer is intended for a sale.

Riot produced 1,473 BTC during the first quarter, down from 1,530 BTC a year earlier, while its Bitcoin holdings declined to 15,680 BTC from 19,223 BTC, including 5,802 BTC classified as restricted, and the company said lower Bitcoin prices and higher network hash rate reduced mining revenue to US$111.9 million from US$142.9 million.

The transfer comes as listed Bitcoin miners continue adjusting treasury strategies to manage tighter mining economics, while following the latest blockchain transaction Riot Platforms shares were unchanged.

Publicly listed Bitcoin miners sold more than 32,000 BTC during the first quarter of 2026, exceeding the amount sold during all of 2025, as higher mining difficulty, lower hashprice and rising operating costs weighed on profitability.

Riot has also continued expanding its data centre and high-performance computing business alongside Bitcoin mining, reflecting broader efforts by miners to diversify revenue as the industry adapts to post-halving market conditions.
