  • Revolut Global Digital Assets Limited has secured a Distributed Ledger Technology provider licence from Gibraltar’s financial regulator.
  • The authorisation supports Revolut’s plans to expand its cryptocurrency services into additional international markets.
  • The licence adds a regulated base for expansion, although Revolut has not announced specific new markets or launch dates.

Revolut Global Digital Assets Limited secured authorisation from the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission to provide Distributed Ledger Technology services.

The new entity will support international crypto operations alongside Revolut’s existing UK and European Economic Area services.

“Securing our DLT authorisation from the GFSC reflects our commitment to operating at the highest standards of regulatory compliance,” according to Emil Urmashin, Revolut’s general manager for Crypto and New Bets.

The licence gives Revolut a regulatory base for extending its digital asset offerings into additional international markets.

“Gibraltar has long led the way in establishing a rigorous regulatory environment for DLT firms, rooted in high standards and robust oversight,” according to Gibraltar Chief Minister Fabian Picardo.

Revolut already serves crypto users in the UK and European Economic Area through separate entities operating under applicable regulatory frameworks.

The company has more than 80 million retail customers worldwide, including over 16 million crypto users, according to its announcement.

Revolut has yet to disclose which markets its Gibraltar entity will serve or when new services will launch.
