Polygon Foundation will activate the Giugliano hardfork on April 8 to improve transaction finality and network efficiency on Polygon.
The upgrade is expected to reduce finality time by around two seconds by allowing block producers to announce blocks earlier.
“This upgrade enables faster finality by letting producers announce blocks earlier, adds fee parameters directly in block headers, and introduces new RPC support for fee data,”
Polygon said.
Giugliano also integrates EIP-1559-style fee data directly into block headers, improving transparency and enabling developers to access gas pricing more efficiently.
New RPC endpoints will allow wallets and decentralised applications to query fee data without relying on external estimation tools.
The upgrade follows a turbulent 2025, when bugs caused finality delays of up to 15 minutes and temporary network halts.
It forms part of Polygon’s broader Gigagas roadmap targeting 100,000 transactions per second, though the POL token was down around 5% ahead of the upgrade.
